What I Do

I tell stories and teach storytelling to audiences all over the world. My storytelling passion extends to teaching the art I call Performance Literacy where students write and tell their own stories. I have taught Performance Literacy across the United States and Canada as well as Ireland, England, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Viet Nam, Costa Rica, and Nigeria. Performance Literacy, a form of place-based education has been integrated into various curricula at the state and local level, around the United States.

Performance Literacy focuses on students learning the concept of a story, oral language development, writing, reading, public speaking skills, motivation, self confidence and higher order critical thinking skills. It involves utilizing visual, audio and kinesthetic learning styles. Perhaps most importantly, students enjoy the process and feel proud of their accomplishments- they tell their stories to other students, their parents and their community. Teachers consistently comment that all their students’ benefit and produce; even their special needs and English learning children.
